Tonight’s meditation: ELIJAH WENT OVER TO HIM AND THREW HIS CLOAK ON HIM! According to the instructions of the Lord. So one of the roles of prophet in the Old Testament was to anoint the new kings and also to lay their mantle of prophetic anointing onto the next generation of prophets. So Elijah cloaked Elisha and gave him the mantle of prophet according to the word God had spoken to him. Many prophets share an actual physical mystery and a supernatural grace which has been handed down just like this through the ages. That is how they know they are chosen by God for His purposes. That is they must separate themselves from those they love and set themselves to work and follow the Lord where He leads them. As Elisha had to kiss his family goodbye before he could then follow Elijah. The office of prophet is weighty; just as the cloak of Elijah must have felt weighty to Elisha. But God knows the heart and He chooses whomever He will; who by His grace can serve his fellow man with humility and charity.
